The ten commandments are a law God gave his people, the Israelites, it was a way of life, not simply a set of rules. The 10 laws of life written down by God were given to Moses on two tablets after God showed Moses how to bring the people out of Eqypt so they were no longer slaves. Moses showed and read the two tablets so the people could follow God's laws and find their way in remain in God's love. As thanks for their freedom they committed to God's laws.
